This story has been updated to include when Columbia Public Works crews expect to begin road maintenance.

Travel, Parking, And Check In // New Student Programs

As we await Thursday's winter weather forecast, Columbia Public Works crews continue to monitor the situation. MoDOT recommends staying informed about road conditions. The National Weather Service says a mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow is expected across central Missouri.

Patrick Walsh, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in St. Louis, Columbia said a change from rain to rain to snow can be expected in the afternoon.

By noon, the current rain in the area will become freezing rain and sleet, Walsh said. Colombia is under a winter weather advisory from noon to midnight Thursday as we await the temperature difference and the possibility of dangerous rain.

Public information officer Barry Dalton explained that the department closely monitors all available weather forecasts. The event team is expected to hold a meeting this morning to discuss the event plan.

Modot Reminds Travelers To Be Cautious Even When Map Indicates Clear Roads

"Once the rain stops and the treatment doesn't wash off, they'll probably start treating the priority roads, designated snow lanes, bridges, curbs, curves and intersections," Dalton said. "Then they'll move on."

"The advantage is that the pavement will be warm because the temperature is warm, but it will also cool as the temperature drops," Dalton said.

Winter Storm Warning In Effect From Midnight Tonight To Noon On Thursday

MoDOT encourages residents to check road conditions before traveling, said Sally Oxenhandler, communications manager for MoDOT's Central District office.

"We have tools for them so they can get information about what's happening on the road," Oxenhandler said. "First is the traveler information map and it's available at modot.org. It's updated regularly as winter events take place."

Oxenhandler also encourages individuals to "prepare and know" before leaving home. The map will show whether a road or highway is covered, partially or clear.

MoDOT offers traffic cameras that help monitor the state's traffic conditions. If you want to talk to someone about road conditions, you can call MoDOT customer service staff 24/7 at 1-888-275-6636.

If staying indoors isn't an option or if someone is hit by a storm on their trip, Oxenhandler offers this important advice: "They need to make sure they have the right equipment in their vehicle in case they stay, " he says. "We recommend having a cell phone, flashlight, blanket, and supplies, whether it's water or maybe snacks." (KFVS) - On Wednesday and Thursday, heavy and freezing rain passed through the Village, making the trip very dangerous.

In addition to highways, you'll want to be careful walking on sidewalks, parking lots, and outside stairs and porch steps. They will also be smooth.

Missouri Department of Transportation maps show major roads and highways in southeast Missouri as "very clear."

Sea Vixen Aircraft - Westland Wasp HAS Mk 1 XT787 (G-KAXT) represents the first generation of British helicopters purpose-built to operate from frigates at sea, a key milestone in the rotary element of our naval aviation heritage. The Wasp formed an integral part of the ship's weapons system, armed with anti-submarine torpedoes and later air-to-surface missiles, allowing the ship to extend its range and influence beyond that of its own weapons. With its folding tail and rotor blades, four-wheel landing gear and swivel wheels, the development of the Wasp made an essential contribution to understanding and solving the challenges of flying helicopters from small ships. The Wasp demonstrated the Medium-Range Anti-Submarine Torpedo Transport Helicopter (MATCH) concept and was the forerunner of all small naval helicopters, including today's unmanned emergent versions.

Westland Wasp XT787 entered service with the Royal Navy in 1967 and operated with 829 Naval Air Squadron from the frigates HMS Leander and HMS Rhyl, and later with 703 Naval Air Squadron in Portland. It also served in the Royal New Zealand Navy before passing into private ownership. She is painted in the historic camouflage scheme of the Falklands conflict, and keeps alive the memory of the Royal Navy's first generation naval helicopter and her 30 years of naval service.

The Wasp was a small gas turbine powered anti-submarine helicopter. Produced by Westland Helicopters, it came from the same P.531 development program as the British Army's Westland Scout. Its design was a response to the Royal Navy's requirement for a helicopter small enough to land on the deck of a frigate and still carry a powerful payload of two homing torpedoes. The increased range at which the submarine threat could be detected led to the need for a "Manned Torpedo Transport Helicopter" (MATch). Modern naval weapons did not have the necessary range, so the helicopter carried the weapon to the adversary before being instructed on where and when to drop it. Unlike the larger Wessex, the Wasp had no sonar capability and was therefore limited to working in partnership with its parent ship, other ships or other ASW units.

The first Saro P.531 prototype flew on 20 July 1958 with a pre-production order for two of what were originally called Sea Scouts in September 1961. After testing various chassis designs, the first flight of the pre-production. Wasp took place on 28 October 1962. Full production soon began, 98 in total were purchased for the Rn. The Wasp was successfully exported to Brazil, the Netherlands, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand and South Africa. A total of 133 aircraft were built.

The Wasp was basically a scout modified to be fit for purpose for the Navy. Differences included the folding fuselage and rotors, as well as its unique rolling-style 4-wheel landing gear which allowed the aircraft to be finely maneuvered on small, sloping flight decks. Although small, the Wasp was a versatile and effective aircraft for short-range transport and casualty evacuation, as well as its primary anti-submarine role. Her success is credited to the fact that her service career continued until her retirement in 1988. Her most notable success was during the Falklands War when Wasps damaged the Argentine submarine ARA Santa Fe and forced her crew to abandon her and surrender to the British forces. It was withdrawn from service when the last of the Rothesay Type 12 class frigates was withdrawn from service and replaced by the Westland Lynx. De Havilland Aircraft Company's DH110 Sea Vixen was originally ordered as a two-seat, twin-boom, radar-equipped fighter to F.4/48 specification and was in direct competition with the Gloster Javan.

Although it lost in that competition, the Royal Navy felt that the de Havilland DH110 was a better basis for a carrier-based fleet defense strike fighter. This led to the publication of a new specification N.131T, written specifically with the De Havilland DH110 in mind. De Havilland Aircraft Company chose the twin-boom configuration, seen on the Vampire and Venom, with an all-metal fuselage with swept and later folding wings.

Powered by Rolls-Royce Avon 208 turbojets, the prototype (WG326) first flew at Hatfield on 26 September 1951, piloted by John "Cats Eyes" Cunningham. Early test flights exceeded expectations for both speed and performance, far exceeding the speed of sound.

The De Havilland DH110Sea Vixen was involved in a major tragedy at the Farnborough Air Show in 1952, when the prototype was displayed to the crowd with the intention of creating a sonic boom. After taking the aircraft to supersonic speed in a dive, it suffered a sudden structural break during a high-G turn.

Tragically, the break saw the engines continue into the crowd, killing 29 spectators and injuring many others. In addition, test pilot John Derry and flight engineer Tony Richards lost their lives.

After the accident, the remaining prototype De Havilland DH110 (WG240) was strengthened and certain areas were redesigned and it was almost a year before flight testing resumed. Despite this, the RAF abandoned its interest in the aircraft, selecting the Gloster Javelin instead.

Meanwhile, following the carrier's successful trials, the Fleet Air Arm decided to adopt the De Havilland DH110 Sea Vixen to replace its Sea Venoms. He decisively placed an order for 110 "Navalised aircraft" later renamed the De Havilland DH110 Sea Vixen FAW.

In June 1955, a half-built prototype de Havilland DH110 Sea Vixen FAW Mk20X (XF828) completed aircraft-deck suitability tests, which included catapult launches and hook landings, although the folding wing capability motorized vehicles was not incorporated until April 1956.

The first production aircraft flew on 20 March 1957, with construction of the vast majority of the aircraft being completed in Christchurch, near Bournemouth.

However, in 1962, with the advent of aircraft industry consolidation, all work on the De Havilland DH110 Sea Vixen was moved to Harwardennear Chester, now home to Airbus Wing production.

In total, a single prototype and 119 De Havilland DH110 Sea Vixen FAW.1s were built, followed by 29 De Havilland DH110 Sea Vixen FAW.2s, to which many (67) of the surviving FAW.1 aircraft were converted.

The De Havilland DH110 Sea Vixen FAW.2 can be easily distinguished by the forward extension of the two tail booms, in front of the leading edge of the wing, which are used to increase the internal fuel volume.

The De Havilland DH110 Sea Vixen never saw service in any war, although it provided carrier-based cover duty around the world.

Although not a combat operation, the De Havilland DH110 Sea Vixen was used to drop bombs and rockets on the wreck of the Torrey Canyon, a 120,000-ton tanker that ran aground on Seven Stones Reef at the tip of Cornwall on 18 March 1967. . .

The Sea Vix had the distinction of being the first British two-seat fighter to achieve supersonic speed, although not in level flight. Operating from British aircraft carriers, it was used in combat over Tanganyika and over Yem during Ad Emergcy. In 1972, the Sea Vix was phased out in favor of the American-made McDonnell Douglas Phantom FG.1 interceptor. No Sea Vixs are flying as of 2017.

In 1946, the de Havilland Aircraft Company held discussions with the British Admiralty regarding its requirements for a future jet-powered, radar-equipped, all-weather fighter aircraft.

From these conversations it became clear that the aircraft would require a crew of two to operate its radar and navigation equipment, as well as to fly the fighter, and that two engines were required for a safety factor over the ocean, and that sweeps the wings. were desirable. The fighter would also have moderate wing loading for high altitude maneuverability and acceptable aircraft carrier takeoff and landing performance. Very efficient wing flaps would be required to land and take off.

Sea Pay Calculator - Hello! This is an old post that we have put up for the sake of transparency. Find out more about the latest formula and see all the team's salaries here.

It's been 2 years since we first shared our transparent payment system; We are very surprised by the response we have seen.

A lot has changed and changed since we launched our formula. We decided it was time to change our payment method as well.

This was a very interesting process for us - we worked with the whole team for about 2-3 months (more on our process below!) and this is the result.

Today we're excited to share a new (and, we hope, better) version of our salary formula, as well as a new online app that anyone can use to find out if you're in the category. created if you are part of ,

It's one of the things we're most excited about in this payback, and it's also changed the formula a lot.

Here's the problem: Our previous method took into account the cost of living in a city, but it didn't

, For example, both San Francisco and London were previously considered to be on the same level because they have the same cost of living, but very different job markets.

When we started doing this, we saw that relying on market data could make a big difference in wages. For example, there would be a difference in wages of $90,000 from Cape Town to San Francisco. We didn't want such a large difference for several reasons.

The new system now includes an elastic component that adjusts to the cost of living and market trends in salaries for different positions.

That's why we've created a transparent payment calculator. This means that now everyone can see what they want by connecting their data to find places, events, etc.

We break down each part for you, so it's easy to understand how each part of the formula works together to create the total payout.

Although our formula has become more and more complex, we hope that the calculator will make it easier to get results. We've been very impressed with the number of startups that have adopted our payment method, and we want everyone to be able to use our latest innovation.

On top of this, we are happy to put the calculator to good use internally as we bring new people in and provide them with a fair and accurate salary that they can easily understand.

As we grow and develop, our fees must be clear; And we think it's solid now.

It's amazing to meet so many people who were inspired by the original formula and applied it to their companies.

Sea Pay Calculator - Hello! This is an old post that we have put up for the sake of transparency. Find out more about the latest formula and see all the team's salaries here.

It's been 2 years since we first shared our transparent payment system; We are very surprised by the response we have seen.

Sea Pay Calculator

Sea Pay Calculator

It's been amazing to see how many companies have adopted our formula or similar open solutions, and I see an opportunity to be a small part of the larger conversation around transparent reporting and equality.

It also started a long list of other things we wanted to make public. Here's a list of the things we've made visible since then:

A lot has changed and changed since we launched our formula. We decided it was time to change our payment method as well.

This was a very interesting process for us - we worked with the whole team for about 2-3 months (more on our process below!) and this is the result.

Today we're excited to share a new (and, we hope, better) version of our salary formula, as well as a new online app that anyone can use to find out if you're in the category. created if you are part of ,

Career Sea Pay (csp)

The first and most important part of a person's salary is the part. They all have the following 4 elements:

When you have a field (above), we put a multiplier. There are 4 stages as follows, which we identify when talking to each team member:

For each dependent on your income (children, spouse, significant other, grandparents, aunts and uncles, etc.), we add $3,000 a year to the premium.

Update January 2016: We now have another way to help dependents who are not part of the payroll; You can learn all about it here.

Every year our partner stays with us, he gets 5% of his salary. This works on top of everything.

It is an option that we offer to team members to include additional compensation or additional shares in their compensation. Right now, you can add $10,000 to your salary or waive the extra salary and receive an additional 30% bonus.

With weight, leverage and now The Good Life Curve, it can be difficult to explain all aspects of the payment process as we rapidly expand the team.

For anyone who is just starting out looking for a job, or starting a paid job, we hope this new process and calculator will reduce the number of hours you spend thinking about salary.

To dive deeper into the ideas and strategies that go into our Pay Formula, we sat down to chat with Courtney about the ideas and strategies she developed. You can see all the chats here:

This is a big camp. The sea is beautiful and a short walk to the beach. Ate once at the daily food truck, shrimp shack, but the crab cakes were not that good. The laundry room was nice, but the washing machine was $6 too much. The staff were friendly and very helpful. All in all, my new NC camp.

This Campground In The Adirondacks Has Hiking, Cliff Jumping, And Swimming — And You Can Get There By Floatplane

Five stars for the location, but there are some objections. First of all, the signage at the resort is terrible. Our GPS took us to the entrance, but it wasn't obvious until we looked around because the track was nowhere near the entrance. Big rigs just can't make a turn! Then there are no signs regarding road directions inside the park. If you want a one-sided circle around the perimeter, clear it. Our site was level enough, it was expanded. Dirty sand will be a nightmare in the rain. On the plus side, all the staff were very friendly and very helpful. The bathroom was top notch. Can't say enough about the beautiful beach steps from our site. The price is in line with the spectacular location. I just hope corporate ownership doesn't drive away great workers.

First time meeting After 40+ years of private ownership, the resort was sold to a large corporation (Encore), so who knows what the future holds. Great place right on the beach. Very clean park, best bathroom and amenities I've ever seen at a campground and I have an eye for detail. Beautiful pool, go-kart track on site, daily food trucks, food/beverage shacks on the beach. The campground runs like a well oiled machine!

Now for the worst; The real campsites are very expensive for the conditions, they are not very level, just grass and sand. Golf carts and tractors zoom around the camp throughout the day. Per diem fee for one pet, plus fees and fines for everything. I understand some fees and fines for good reason. Honestly, I don't know if I would go back because of the cost. Maybe if they had tiers, the big concrete campsites would sweeten the deal enough to bring it back.

As first timers at the Emerald Isle HTP we had an enjoyable stay. The weather was almost perfect. The staff was nice and welcoming. Unfortunately we had a death in the family which prevented us from checking out on the original scheduled day. They were kind enough to give us credit for the days we missed. The campsite was clean. The page we were in (25R) was big enough for our A class coach. We were able to see the ocean from our page. The bathrooms were extremely clean. (Actually, the cleanest I've ever seen at any campground). Our trip was off season so many businesses were either closed or had limited hours. That said, the only reason we probably won't be back is the cost per night! $175.00/day and no off season discount rate, no other discount rates (Senior Citizen, Good Sam, AAA). I compared their value to other CGs nearby and was a little surprised at the difference.

Here's a list of all the limited-time travel deals available to all US Platinum and Platinum Business Cardholders...

People don't travel far or wide these days, but the United States is big and has a lot to do. American Express has negotiated deals with partners like Delta and American Airlines to offer up to 20% off select airfares.

Yes, American Airlines and Amex have partnered here, which is interesting given American Airlines' relationship with other financial partners. Our research also found that American gave Amex the biggest discount of any US airline, even better than Delta!

Dixie Direct Southern Utah Discounts

The discount is exclusive to Amex Platinum and Business Platinum cardholders and is valid for Economy and Business/First Class tickets booked before December 31, 2020, for travel before March 31, 2021.

So are the savings real? It seems so. Various searches have yielded savings of 20% or more in business class and around 5-15% in economy class. No-fare category tickets have the biggest savings, but even discounted tickets are worth saving. And well, a savings is a savings. Full details here.

Of course, an airline ticket booked with Amex Travel is 5 times more profitable than directly with the airlines, so you'll get the best points we have when buying this flight.

Sead Aircraft - Aimee Air Defense Deterrence (SEAD, pronounced /ˈsiː-æd/), also known as Operation "Wild Weasel" and (originally) "Iron Hand" in the United States, is a military operation aimed at surface air compression. Defenses, including not only surface-to-air missiles (SAMs) and anti-aircraft artillery (AAA) but also interconnected systems such as radar and command, control and communication (C).

) operates, but targets other targets that will be destroyed by airstrikes. Suppression can be done both by physically destroying systems or by disrupting and deceiving them through electronic warfare. In modern warfare, SEAD missions account for 30% of all attacks launched in the first week of combat and continue at a reduced rate for the remainder of the campaign.

Although generally associated with aircraft, SEAD missions can be conducted by any means, including ground forces operations.

J 16d, China's Sead Aircraft Seen As Never Before

The first SEAD-like operations occurred during World War II, with multiple participants attempting to destroy ground-based radar installations. However, SEAD missions performed by dedicated aircraft first entered combat missions during the Vietnam War, US Air Force EF-105F/F-105G Thunderchief and US Navy A-6B Intruders are among these pioneers; Operation Linebacker deliberately incorporated SEAD operations to improve bomber survivability and increase overall effectiveness. Other early conflicts that saw SEAD deployed include the 1982 Falklands War, over Port Stanley, and the 1982 Lebanon War, over the Beqaa Valley. The tactical awareness of the air defense personnel, or lack thereof, proved to be a decisive factor in the success of these missions. During the 1986 US airstrikes on Libya, while Libya's integrated air defense system was not destroyed, it was damaged by US troops without much loss of life.

In the 1990s SEAD was widely used, especially in the Gulf War of the early 1990s. Iraqi Air Defense Forces continued airstrikes at the start of the war in coalition airstrikes Operation Instant Thunder; Iraqi SAM operators routinely resorted to launching missiles with little or no guidance for fear that using radar would lead to swift retaliation. All Iraqi air defenses in the south were destroyed, although the skies were still unsafe for low-altitude flights. In the 1999 NATO air raids on Yugoslavia, the defenders' air defenses proved less vulnerable and more effective; Although only two aircraft were lost to Yugoslav SAMs, the downing of the F-117A Nighthawk marked the first combat loss of a stealth aircraft. During the Iraq War of the 2000s, during the first phase of the war, coalition aircraft often targeted Iraqi SAMs, however, airstrikes were usually carried out from a distance to avoid these defenses and low-flying flights were avoided. Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022 While Russian airstrikes destroyed or damaged most of Ukraine's air defenses in the early days of the war, Russia may not achieve air superiority; Ukraine's medium-range SAM bases are said to have forced the planes to fly low, leaving them vulnerable to surface-to-air missiles.

Before the Vietnam War, SEAD was an undefined mission: although attempts were made to destroy enemy air defenses, they were carried out by individual aircraft and in relation to specific objectives or operations rather than general ones. As part of plans or ideas. . Defensive pressure.

During the Battle of Britain, the German Luftwaffe attempted to destroy British Chinese home radar stations to disrupt the British anti-aircraft system. However, the German high command understood not only the effectiveness of the radar stations, but also the command and control system directing British anti-aircraft defenses. After initial optimism about the destruction of radar sites, it was decided to stop these attacks completely without exception.

As the air war in Europe turned in favor of the Allies, the Germans relied heavily on their AAA to defend against bombing. This resulted in Allied aircraft losses between 1943 and 1944, with enemy fighter losses halving but flight losses multiplying.

Recognizing the importance of German radar sites, the Allies targeted these facilities and introduced new techniques to counter the effects of radar-guided AAA, including Carpet (US) and Windo (UK). A change in tactics caused bomb formations to fly higher and spread further to avoid flake effects. Bombing attacks were also conducted to physically destroy AAA sites, using imaging to locate weapons and using heavy bombers and fighter-bombers to destroy them. The P-47 Thunderbolt was particularly well suited for this mission due to its ability to survive Amy fire. The effectiveness of these missions varied, with fighter losses being much higher – in some cases as high as 40% – due to their low-altitude attacks.

Artillery also played a major role in suppressing anti-aircraft defenses, the British Army being the first to carry out a mission called anti-roaming or 'apple pie'. These projects were first used with limited success in the Battle of France, but developed as the war progressed. The largest SEAD mission in history took place on 24 March 1945, when British XII Corps artillery attempted to destroy the German anti-aircraft network supported by Operation University. Although 24,000 artillery shells were fired at more than 100 targets within 42 minutes, the mission failed due to incorrect targeting information and insufficient power.

In the Pacific theater, the Japanese made only limited progress in developing anti-aircraft radar, and what systems they had were primitive and easily intercepted. When the Americans began their bombing campaign against Japan, however, there were concerns about the large number of radar sites on the home islands. To this end, B-24 Liberators and B-29 Superfortresses were equipped with radar reconnaissance to perform "ferret" missions to detect and identify radar transmissions. The information returned from these missions was used to equip other B-29s with radar jammers and chaff to disrupt Japanese anti-aircraft radars as they flew their missions.

Suppression Of Enemy Air Defence (sead)

B-25 Mitchells were also equipped with radar transmitters and were used to lead "hunter-killer" teams of other B-25s in locating and destroying Japanese radar sites.

Although there were some technological changes between World War II and the Korean War, many methods of dealing with anti-aircraft defenses remained unchanged. For aircraft performing low-altitude missions, AAA is a constant threat. In fact, air-to-air combat was less dangerous for a UNC pilot than engaging ground targets.

The terrain and weather on the Korean Peninsula also contributed to the risks associated with a ground attack mission. The announcement of the jets, however, brought about major changes. Compared to propeller aircraft, jet aircraft were faster, could climb higher, were more resistant to damage and quieter in operation. They were thus able to engage and avoid ground targets more effectively, and while both jet and propeller-driven aircraft participated in the Korean War, the latter suffered more damage and were largely destroyed.

As the war progressed, the Communists built up a highly centralized air defense network, which included early warning radar, Ground Control Intercept (GCI) and AAA. The strength of this network forced UNC bombers to carry out bombing missions at altitudes beyond the reach of ground weapons, although this affected the accuracy of their bombs. The UNC also has an effective air defense system, but North Korea's air force was largely destroyed at the start of the war, and the Chinese Air Force focused almost exclusively on air superiority missions rather than attacking the UNC's ground forces.

F-105G Thunderchief "Wild Weasel" with AGM-45 and AGM-78 missiles takes off from Korat Royal Thai Air Force Base.

The Vietnam War saw the development of what would become known as SEAD during the war. At the start of Operation Rolling Thunder, North Vietnamese air defenses were only briefly engaged, despite intelligence indicating that the North Vietnamese Army had an Integrated Dedicated Air Disabling System (IADS). This includes the construction of sixty SA-2 guided SAMs by the end of 1965, which, although they only fired one shot for every thirty missiles, were responsible for shooting down about 15% of US aircraft lost that year. Early attempts to combat this system involved modified F-100 Super Sabers using crude launchers to locate and bomb radar-guided SAM and AAA sites, but these missions suffered heavy losses and the U.S. The threat to aircraft steadily increased .

In 1966, a task force was assembled to analyze the challenges presented by the NVA's anti-aircraft systems and make recommendations on ways to meet them. One of them was for aircraft operating at low altitudes (below 500 meters) where missiles were less effective. This aircraft is also well maintained in the AAA range.
